Supreme Court Starts Suo Moto Case on Allahabad High Court’s Ruling

The Supreme Court has started a suo motu case to review the Allahabad High Court’s (‘AHC’) decision, holding that grabbing minor’s breast and breaking the string of minor victim’s lower garment is not rape and therefore, downgrading the charges from rape to lesser offenses.

The CCI looked into 35 cases of cartelisation across various sectors in the last 5 years

The Ministry of Corporate Affairs, answering a Parliamentary Question asked in Lok Sabha, revealed that the Competition Commission of India (‘CCI’) investigated 35 cartelisation cases over the past five years, with the most cases in the Miscellaneous Sector (18). Further, it stated that the CCI introduced measures like the “lesser penalty plus” and “Hub & Spoke” to efficiently deal with anti competitive practices in the relevant market.

Partial Relief to Google in Digital Advertising Lawsuit

U.S. District Judge dismissed part of a lawsuit, which accused Google to have been misleading investors about its digital advertising and privacy practices. The lawsuit claimed Google manipulated ad auctions, however, the Judge ruled investors lacked sufficient evidence of securities fraud.

Supreme Court Modifies Patna High Court Order Regarding Condition in Anticipatory Bail

The Supreme Court (‘SC’) criticized Patna High Court’s order which imposed condition on the anticipatory bail granted to the accused that upon filing of chargesheet, the bail would be cancelled and accused would be arrested. Accordingly the SC modified the order directing the accused to appear before the trial court, within three weeks from the date of the order of SC, during which period the anticipatory bail shall continue.
