Circumstantial evidence must complete the chain in all respects, to indicate guilt of accused: SC

The Supreme Court, while allowing an appeal assailing the order of the High Court of Madhya Pradesh, reiterated the established principle that, “In a case of circumstantial evidence, the chain has to be complete in all respects so as to indicate the guilt of the accused and also exclude any other theory of the crime.” The High Court had confirmed the conviction of the accused even though it opined that the recovery of assault weapon did not indicate that the accused committed the offence.
