Amendments to Kenya’s Competition Act to curb Anti-Competitive activities of Big Tech

In an effort to stop big tech companies from engaging in anti-competitive practices, the Competition Authority of Kenya (CAK) recently proposed substantial amendments to the Competition Act of Kenya. With this action, the Kenyan government is taking a firm stand against the overwhelming domination held by global technology companies like Google, Amazon, X, and Apple over small enterprises in the country. In the proposed amendment, CAK has included the word ‘Digital Activities’ under section 2 of the Competition Act thereby covering the big tech giants under the ambit of the Competition Act.
