US federal judge blocks JetBlue’s acquisition of Spirit

A U.S. District Court Judge in Boston, in a suit filed by the U.S. Department of Justice alleging JetBlue’s proposed $3.8 billion purchase of target – Spirit Airlines as anti-competitive, has blocked the deal. The transaction, if had been proceeded, would have created the fifth-largest airline in the United States. The judge based on the premise that Spirit’s elimination would “harm cost-conscious travellers who rely on Spirit’s low fares”, blocked the transaction.
