Intermarché takeover of Casino stores approved by ALC with commitments

The French Competition Authority (Autorité de la concurrence/ ALC) has granted its approval to Intermarché to acquire 61 food retail stores operated under the Casino Group. Both, Intermarché & Casino’s target store operate in the downstream food retail markets. According to ALC, the transaction is not likely to significantly affect competition in France, except in 3 catchment areas surrounding the stores in Lons-le-Saunier, Plouaret & Vals-près-le-Puy, for which Intermarché has provided a commitment to sell off these stores to other competitors.
